How to prepare the field for game play

We are switching from chalk to line the field to field paint.  Shetland and Colt ONLY will continue to use chalk until we have used up our current supply.  The Colt chalk room is filled with chalk and chalkers.  Why are we switching?  Chalk is very drying to the dirt (especially around home plate), it is very messy and it is VERY bulky to transport.

For obvious reasons we can not leave cans of paint in the equipment rooms.  As we work out the best way to handle the paint supply to the fields, for winterball the opening director on Saturday will distribute a can of paint to each field.  If any additional paint is needed during the day, the canteen supervisor or director on duty will be able to provide this for you.

As a reminder: Home team preps the field and the visiting team drags the field after the game.

Pinto, Mustang 1, Bronco and Pony have all had their home plate areas redone.  Three inches deep of the old dirt/chalk was removed and replaced with new brick dust.  These fields have the artificial turf side lines so the only field prep is for the batter's box.  There is a painter to share between pony/bronco and one to share between pinto/mustang 1.  We have ordered a smaller style to use for these fields to see how easy these are to use.  This will arrive in the next week and be placed in a chalk room.

When using field paint the two most important things to remember is that the paint can needs to be shaken for a minute and the dirt MUST be damp.  If you don't wet the ground first the paint will not stick.  The nozzle needs to inserted horizontally to match the slit in the sprayer.
